HOW DO WE RECEIVE ATONEMENT ON THE DAY OF ATONEMENT, OR ANY OTHER DAY?

Shalom.

Today is Yom Kippur, The Day of Atonement.  And our teaching will come from GOD’S Word and Commandments for this great Day in Leviticus 23.26-32.

AND THE TITLE OF OUR MESSAGE IS, HOW DO WE RECEIVE ATONEMENT ON THE DAY OF ATONEMENT,  OR ANY OTHER DAY?

And with that said, let’s read Leviticus 23.26-32

What does ATONEMENT mean?

Atonement means Forgiveness of sins.

The Word Atonement for The Day of Atonement comes from the Hebrew Word KEE’PUR’IM meaning Atonements.

Atonements, plural, because in the days of The Tabernacle and The Temple, Atonement was made every day, twice a day by an animal sacrifice, even on The Sabbath Days.

A sacrifice was offered in the morning, and another sacrifice was offered in the evening in the Courtyard of The Tabernacle or The Temple.

Thus The Day of Atonements.  Many Atonements.  Every day, twice a day until the Temple was destroyed by the Romans in 70 C.E./A.D.

The destruction of The Temple ended the sacrificial system temporarily because the animal sacrifice is forbidden by The LORD GOD when there is no Temple in Jerusalem.

When the next Temple is built, GOD will reinstate the animal sacrifice for atonement.  LEVITICUS 17.8-11, NUMBERS 28.1-4, EZEKIEL 40-48

ATONEMENT IS A GIFT FROM GOD TO FORGIVE US OUR SINS.

SIN IS BREAKING THE LAW OF MOSES.  ANY LAW THAT IS WRITTEN IN TORAH, THE LAW OF MOSES THAT IS WRITTEN IN GENESIS, EXODUS, LEVITICUS, NUMBERS AND DEUTERONOMY.

THE LAW OF MOSES IS THE LAW OF GOD.

THUS EVERY HUMAN BEING HAS SINNED AGAINST GOD.

THEREFORE EVERY PERSON NEEDS ATONEMENT FROM GOD TO BE RIGHT WITH GOD TO BE WRITTEN IN GOD’S BOOK OF LIFE FOR ETERNAL LIFE IN HEAVEN.  NUMBERS 15.31, 1 JOHN 3.4, EXODUS 32.33

ALL REASONS WHY EVERYONE NEEDS ATONEMENT.

IN GOD’S MERCY, HE HAS GIVEN US HIS GIFT OF ATONEMENT THAT HAS A NUMBER OF MEANINGS.

ATONEMENT MEANS THAT GOD COVERS OUR SINS, PARDONS OUR SINS, FORGIVES OUR SINS.  AND WE HAVE RECONCILIATION WITH GOD BECAUSE HE HAS FORGIVEN OUR SINS.

RECONCILIATION MEANS THAT WE ARE REUNITED WITH GOD.

NEXT QUESTION.  DO WE RECEIVE ATONEMENT FROM GOD, THE CREATOR OF HEAVEN AND EARTH, BY FASTING AND OTHER MAN-MADE LAWS ON THE DAY OF ATONEMENT?  OR BY OTHER MEANS?

WE CERTAINLY DO NOT RECEIVE ATONEMENT BY FASTING.  NOR DO WE RECEIVE ATONEMENT BY DOING MAN-MADE LAWS.

WE RECEIVE ATONEMENT BY WHAT GOD HAD MOSES WRITE IN TORAH.

TORAH, THE LAW OF MOSES TEACHES US THAT IT IS THE BLOOD THAT MAKES ATONEMENT FOR THE SOUL.  LEVITICUS 17.11

THAT LAW OF GOD NEVER CHANGES NOR DOES IT EVER END.

Atonement in the days of The Tabernacle and Temple was made by the animal sacrifice and its shed blood.  Followed by living a life of Righteousness.

LEVITICUS 23.27, DEUTERONOMY 28, ISAIAH 40.8, 1 PETER 1.23-25

RIGHTEOUSNESS IS LIVING YOUR LIFE IN OBEDIENCE TO GOD BY OBEYING EVERY WORD THAT GOD SPEAKS IN THE BIBLE.  AND THAT INCLUDES HIS LAW OF MOSES.

Today, without The Temple in Jerusalem, the sacrificial system has ended until the next Temple is built.

Remember, GOD says in Leviticus 17.11, “It is the blood that makes atonement for the soul.”

And that blood must come from a sacrifice that gave its life for our Atonement.

That Law, like all GOD’S Laws never changes or ends.  Even without a Temple.  It is the blood that makes atonement for the soul.

Some 2,000 years ago in Jerusalem, The Sacrifice Who gave His Life was GOD ALMIGHTY, HA SHEM ELOHIM, MESSIAH YESHUA, THE GOD OF CREATION, THE FATHER Who made Himself a Human Being to suffer death, and shed His Blood to make Atonement for the souls of His Jewish People and all mankind.  GENESIS 18.14, HEBREW BIBLE PSALM 22.2, CHRISTIAN BIBLE PSALM 22.1, MATTHEW 27.46

It is Written.  It is Prophesied.  And it has happened.  Messiah Yeshua gave His Life to be our Atonement.  That was His Purpose for His first coming.  To give His Life for our Atonement.

ISAIAH 52.13-15, ISAIAH 53.1-12 (10), THE NEW TESTAMENT, MATTHEW 16.21, MATTHEW 17.22-23, MATTHEW 20.17-19, MATTHEW 26.12, 21-28, 31-32, 62-68, MATTHEW 27.35, 46, 50, MATTHEW 28.1, 6

The Prophesy of Messiah’s Death was fulfilled some four hundred years after The Book of The Prophet Malachi was written.

AND THAT WAS THE PURPOSE OF MESSIAH’S FIRST COMING.  FOR JEWISH PEOPLE AND NON-JEWISH PEOPLE.  TO MAKE ATONEMENT FOR YOUR SINS BY BELIEVING IN THE JEWISH MESSIAH YESHUA, WHO IS GOD ALMIGHTY.  AND LIVING YOUR LIFE FOR GOD BY BEING OBEDIENT TO THE LAW OF GOD.  THAT IS BEING OBEDIENT TO THE LAW OF MOSES.

AND THAT IS HOW ATONEMENT IS MADE.  THERE IS NO OTHER WAY.  DEUTERONOMY 8.3, MATTHEW 4.4, LUKE 4.4

Paul, whose given Hebrew name is Sha’ul (Saul) teaches that Messiah is The GOAL of The Law for Righteousness to everyone that believes.  ROMANS 10.4-5

Most every Bible translator of The New Testament teaches obnoxious doctrine in this passage by writing that Messiah is the end of The Law.  And that is a terrible lie.  Messiah is not the end of The Law.  Messiah is The Goal of The Law to Righteousness.  He is the Goal of The Law of Moses, The Law of GOD.

The Greek word for GOAL is Telos, Meaning, The Goal set out for a definite point or a definite Goal.  Telos also means end.  But not in this Passage.  LUKE 16.17

Every sport has a goal.  Baseball’s goal is to score runs.  Football’s goal is to score touchdowns.  Basketball’s goal is to score points by tossing the ball through the basket.

AND MESSIAH HAS A GOAL FOR EVERYONE WHO BELIEVES IN HIM.

MESSIAH’S GOAL FOR US IS TO LOVE RIGHTEOUSNESS.  ROMANS 10.4

Righteousness is being Right with GOD.  And the only way to be Right with GOD is by Obeying The Law of GOD.  Every Law, Teaching and Instruction that is Written in The Law of Moses.  And having Atonement for your sins in Messiah Yeshua.

THAT IS MESSIAH’S GOAL FOR US.  TO BE RIGHTEOUS BY OBEYING THE LAW, GOD’S LAW OF MOSES.

AND WHEN YOU BELIEVE IN MESSIAH YESHUA, AND YOU ARE RIGHTEOUS BY FOLLOWING HIS LAW OF MOSES, YOU HAVE GOD’S GIFT OF ATONEMENT FOREVER.  AS LONG AS YOU CONTINUE THE WALK.  JEREMIAH 31.31-34, MATTHEW 4.4, LUKE 4.4, DEUTERONOMY 8.3

LEVITICUS 23.26  You know what is so remarkable here?  GOD spoke these Words Face to face with Moses in The Tabernacle.  EXODUS 25.21-22

Every Word, Law, Teaching, and Instruction, GOD Spoke to Moses in The Tabernacle to Write in The Law of Moses.  EXODUS 25.21-22

The Words for Yom Kippur, The Day of Atonement are not only GOD’S Spoken Word to The Jewish People, but GOD’S Spoken Word for all mankind.  Because The Word of our GOD, His Laws, Teachings, and Instructions, including His Festivals are for every living human being.  Not just for Jewish People.  Because GOD is The GOD of the Gentiles also.

And GOD’S Word stands forever.  It never changes.

LEVITICUS 23.1-4, FF, DEUTERONOMY 32.1-2, ROMANS 3.29, ROMANS 8.4-7, ISAIAH 40.8, 1 PETER 1.23-25, LUKE 16.17, DANIEL 12.1-2

Romans 8.4  The flesh is man disobeying GOD.  The Spirit is GOD.  The Righteousness of The Law is carried out and performed by those who walk after The Spirit.  Walking after The Spirit is walking with GOD.  Obeying every Word GOD speaks in The Bible.

LEVITICUS 23.27  Today is the tenth day of the seventh Month.  Today is The Day of Atonement.

In GOD’S great mercy, He made Atonement for us.  He gave His Life to forgive us our sins.  Think on that for a moment.  Think what He did for us.  What He went through as a Human Being.  A Person like you and me at the time.  He took a beating for us.  He was sacrificed, killed, and His blood shed so we could have Atonement.  So we would have all our sins forgiven, and be reconciled to Him.  Only GOD would do such a thing for us.

The Bible says in Prophesy that His appearance was so marred, so disfigured, more than any man, and His body more than the sons of men.  To forgive us our sins.

The Bible continues, Yet It pleased The LORD to bruise Him, to crush Him, and beat Him to pieces, and destroy Him.  To put Him to grief to make His Soul an offering for sin.  To make Him our Atonement.

And we can’t comprehend that because there is only One GOD.  So GOD put Himself through that torture for us, for all the world to make Atonement for all mankind.

And GOD, THE MESSIAH YESHUA says, All you have to do is Believe in Him, and Follow Him by obeying His Law of Moses.  And He will forgive all your sins, and remember them no more.  And GOD will be your GOD, and you will be His People.  JEREMIAH 31.31-34

And in return, GOD wants you to forgive others who wronged you.  To stop holding grudges against those who sinned against you, and forgive them as He forgives you.  Because who are we?  Certainly not one of us is perfect like The One Who sacrificed His Life to make Atonement for our sins.

Then there’s the scary story Messiah tells of a guy who wouldn’t forgive others.

GOD called the one who did not forgive others, wicked.  And his lord delivered the one who would not forgive to torment.

And Messiah said, So likewise shall My Heavenly Father do also to you if you from your hearts do not forgive everyone their trespasses.  That is, Forgive them their errors, their faults, and their sins.

THE HEAVENLY FATHER IS MESSIAH YESHUA.

Messiah also says, For if you forgive men their trespasses, your Heavenly Father will also forgive you.  But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

THE HEAVENLY FATHER IS MESSIAH YESHUA.

MATTHEW 18.32-35, MATTHEW 6.14-15, HEBREW BIBLE ISAIAH 9.5, CHRISTIAN BIBLE ISAIAH 9.6, JOHN 12.45, 49, JOHN 14.9, ISAIAH 53.10, JEREMIAH 31.31-35

LET’S CONTINUE IN LEVITICUS 23.27  The Day of Atonement is a Holy Convocation.  Meaning, today is a Sacred Occasion.  A time set apart for The LORD OUR GOD.

A time for GOD’S People to gather together for a Service dedicated entirely to The LORD to observe His Holy Day.

And this Day is also a Rehearsal.

A Rehearsal for observing GOD’S Festival of Yom Kippur that will be observed in the future in The Messianic Kingdom on earth in Israel for 1,000 years, and throughout Eternity in Heaven.

AND VERSE 27 READS, AND YOU SHALL AFFLICT YOUR SOULS.

The Rabbis have taken this Hebrew Word for AFFLICT, AS IN YOU SHALL AFFLICT YOUR SOULS, to mean Fast.  Don’t eat or drink anything during the twenty-four hours of Yom Kippur.

BUT THE HEBREW WORD FOR AFFLICT, AS IN YOU SHALL AFFLICT YOUR SOULS IS AH’NAH.  AH’NAH MEANS TO HUMBLE YOURSELF, TO SUBMIT YOURSELF AND BE SUBMISSIVE AND OBEDIENT.  TO GOD.

AFFLICT, THE HEBREW WORD AH’NAH, DOES NOT MEAN TO FAST.  THE HEBREW AH’NAH MEANS TO BE HUMBLE.

Being Humble to The LORD is being submissive to The LORD.  Submitting to GOD’S Authority by Obeying every Word He Speaks in The Bible.  That includes obeying every Word in GOD’S Torah, His Law of Moses Written in the first five Books of The Bible.

That is the Bottom Line of what GOD requires of us.  To be Humble, Submissive and Obedient to THE LORD OUR GOD on this Day and every day, and forever.

COMPLETING VERSE 27, GOD Commands us to offer an offering made by fire to The LORD.  That is the animal sacrifice for atonement.

And today, those who believe in Messiah Yeshua, and obey His Torah, His Law of Moses have Atonement.

LEVITICUS 23.28  This Day is a Sabbath.  No work of any kind should be done on The Day of Atonement.

It is a day to make Atonement before The LORD Your GOD through Belief in The Jewish Messiah Yeshua, followed by obedience today and forever to GOD’S Law, The Law of Moses.

LEVITICUS 23.29-32  Again, GOD reminds us to Humble ourselves before The LORD OUR GOD.  And Submit to every Word He speaks in The Bible from Genesis through Revelation.  And that includes His Law of Moses Written in the first five books of The Bible.

And The LORD Commands us not to do any work on this Day of Atonement.  And if you must work in this Country that does not obey The Word of GOD in The Bible, ask for the Day off.  If you cannot get the Day off, I believe GOD will understand and forgive you.  If you can get the Day off, take it and observe every Word GOD speaks for this Day of Atonement.

The Day of Atonement is a Statute forever, even throughout Eternity.  As all GOD’S Festivals will be observed forever.

It is a Day to Humble yourself before The LORD YOUR GOD, and Observe and Do every Word He Speaks.

SO HOW DO YOU RECEIVE ATONEMENT ON THE DAY OF ATONEMENT, OR ANY OTHER DAY?

BY BELIEVING IN THE JEWISH MESSIAH YESHUA FOR ATONEMENT, AND LIVING YOUR LIFE ACCORDING TO TORAH, THE LAW OF MOSES.

AND GOD SAYS, YOU SHALL CELEBRATE YOUR SABBATH ON THIS DAY OF ATONEMENT.

BECAUSE YOU HAVE ATONEMENT IN THE MESSIAH YESHUA, THE GOD OF CREATION.

Shalom
